The browser decodes your image into pixels and encodes a fresh file. JPEG and WebP allow lossy compression: a lower quality setting trades some detail for a smaller file. PNG preserves the decoded pixels and ignores the quality setting.

Does compression change the dimensions?
No. This tool keeps the original pixel dimensions. Use Image Resizer if you also want fewer pixels.
Why is my PNG still large?
PNG is lossless, so quality does not reduce its size. Choose WebP for lossy compression with transparency, or JPEG for a photograph on a solid background.
Will transparency be preserved?
PNG and WebP retain transparency. JPEG replaces transparent pixels with white.
